Recently, I have been exploring and delving into the art of replicating an exisiting pickguard pattern. Whilst this is something I've done before with the likes of a range of Kurt Cobain's offset guitars, more recently, I've been able to put more time into expanding my testing into replicating old or existing 'tortoise shell' patterns in interesting ways.
Very soon I will be offering a service where you can send a scan of an old vintage pickguard thats become warped/shrunken/cracked and I will create a fresh new version of it.

1963 Precision Bass
This bass once shared the stage with the Beatles, and I was given the task by Barrington relics as part of his restoration, to recreate the pickguard of the original bass, which had shrunken, cracked and had went brown due to extreme UV exposure.
In order to do this, I recreated the entire pickguards pattern, maticulously, detail by detail, whilst keeping a deep 60s hue in mind, rather than the quite washed out look you can sometimes end up with (although it can certaintly have its own vibe at times too.)
Kevin Shields 1959 Jazzmaster
This Jazzmaster is the one featured on the iconic 'loveless' album cover. I decided as a personal project to recreate it down to every last detail, and the pickguard of course, couldn't be left out.
You can see more about this guitar on a video I made here.
